Photographer Iwan Baan reflects on the work of renowned Dutch architect Willem Dudok. A century on, Dudok’s way of designing continues to be attractive and relevant: space-conscious, hyper-contextual and environment-loving.
With his photographs of Dudok’s architecture, Baan breaks with a tradition. Rather than static architecture photographs, he includes images that reveal the whole story: the story of Dudok as a designer of landscapes in which people can live, work, mourn and learn.
The impressive aerial and street photography in this exhibition show how this versatile architect and urban designer expanded cities throughout the Netherlands on the basis of their individual DNA and placed buildings in their environment in a way that felt entirely natural.
